25th of April every year is marked as world’s malaria day. It is an occasion to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment to malaria prevention and control.
It is on this note that the chairman caretaker committee of portharcourt city local government area,Prince Orukwem Amadi Oparaeli calls on health bodies, private sector companies in portharcourt city local government area, the general public to renew their focus and align with the Rivers State Government ably led by Hon Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON, GSSRS to join the World Health Organization (WHO) and ensure the global eradication of malaria by the year 2030.
Malaria is one of the world’s oldest and deadliest disease in human history and is responsible for millions of deaths in Africa.
The chairman urges residents of portharcourt city local government area to always ensure they keep their environment clean, most especially their drains because it has been globally certified that dirty environments is the root cause of malaria in our society.
He also reiterates his unflinching commitment to the directive of the Governor of the state that issues of environmental sanitation in phalga must be of utmost priority.
He uses this opportunity to call on residents of portharcourt to ensure they participate in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise that will take place in the state on Saturday 28th April 2018.
